Human Services, Inc. is a recovery driven community mental health center serving the Chester County community for more than 50 years. HSI is committed to providing industry leading comprehensive treatment and recovery modalities adults and children experiencing serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

HSI is currently looking for Residential Counselors to build positive relationships with residents in their home while providing modeling and coaching in the activities of daily living.

Residential Counselor positions include FULL-TIME, PART-TIME AND PRN, Non-exempt available in West Chester, PA.

The Residential Counselor is responsible for:

  • Coaching people receiving residential supports in Recovery based symptom management.
  • Teach residents in some of the activities of daily living including but not limited to personal hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, medication management.
  • Transport individuals to and from different appointments or teach individuals to use public transportation.
  • Occasionally manage crisis situations.
  • Observe residents administer medications to themselves correctly and provide coaching on medication administration independence.
  • Monitor individuals for changes in physical and general health status.
  • Document the daily progress of client skill building using electronic medical record system.

The following clearances are required: FBI/Child Abuse History/PA Criminal History/PA Driver’s License. Employees must maintain a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a thorough knowledge of recovery and wellness philosophy.
  • Have a working knowledge of issues faced by those who experience serious mental illness.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish positive working relationships with staff, community partners and the individuals you work with.
  • Relate positively with colleagues and representatives of other agencies.
  • Have the ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
