Special Education Required: NoDescriptionPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use equity-focused practices in conducting psychological and academic assessments on school-aged children and in writing psychoeducational reports that are in compliance with ethical standards (National Association of School Psychologists) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Assist in determining eligibility for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and participate in IEP development of goals and services and interpret evaluation results for IEP teams and families.
- Complete classroom observations and functional behavior assessments as they pertain to educational evaluations and student programming.
- Assist in developing positive behavior support plans based on data and using evidenced based intervention strategies.
- Assist in developing intervention plans consistent with curriculum, student needs, strengths, social and cognitive functioning, and cultural experiences, including assisting in the planning of therapeutic, remedial, and behavioral modification activities as part of the MTSS team.
- Assist school teams in monitoring student progress through the collection and interpretation of student classroom data.
- Provide students, who are demonstrating a need, with expectations and tools to improve communication and social skills and to reinforce positive coping skills and resilience.
- Collaborate with administration to assess, develop, and implement schoolwide initiatives to address social-emotional wellness.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments of student functioning, developmental history, family and community structure, interpersonal relationships, adaptive behavior and cultural factors that may influence learning.
- Provide direct interventions to students in individual and/or group integrated settings in collaboration with the teachers, school counseling department, and special populations staff.
- Promote understanding of development expectations of children and provide professional learning or content to staff.
- Consult and collaborate with York Academy personnel, parents, and community resources in areas that impact students’ learning and their educational experience (e.g. mental health, behavior management, school safety, diversity, crisis management, child abuse and neglect) and develop programs and systems that promote student welfare and achievement.
- Provide culturally responsible services to students and families of diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as a member of the school crisis team to provide intervention for students, including conducting threat assessments, as necessary.
- Provide supportive casework to children and their families, including parent education, self-advocacy skills, and training to help them acquire the necessary skills to support the implementation of their child’s educational program.
- Maintain confidential records and adhere to confidentiality laws (FERPA).
- Participate as part of the Multi-Tiered Support team and facilitate data-based discussions and decision making for identifying supports and interventions for students. 18. Provide referral and liaison services to mental health agencies, medical specialists, and private providers as needed
- Participate in school teams and interagency panels to assist effective integration of behavioral and emotional services to students.
- Maintain school psychologist certification and stay current with best practices.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
