The
Rehabilitation Counselor-Entry / Rehabilitation Counselor position is responsible for performing casework within a caseload, utilizing skills and techniques that enable a person with a disability to successfully interface with their total environment in the community and obtain, maintain, and advance in employment. Travel may be required for this position and must be performed as needed.

The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of Louisiana Works managing programs in workforce training, job placement, apprenticeships, and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards, educational institutions, and industry partners, OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need, contributing to the state’s economic growth.

Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS)
assists persons with disabilities in their desire to obtain, maintain, or advance in competitive integrated employment and achieve independence in their communities by providing rehabilitation services and working cooperatively with businesses and other community resources.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in rehabilitation services, social services, administrative services, therapy services, or nursing; OR

A bachelor’s degree in a rehabilitation field, a social sciences field, social work, education, nursing, health and human services, speech therapy, or business administration; OR

A master's degree.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Schedules interviews to assess the functional limitations and vocational potential of possible rehabilitation consumers.
  • Determines eligibility for rehabilitation services after reviewing comprehensive medical and psychosocial evaluations.
  • Coordinates consumers' plan of rehabilitation to include agreements providing vocational guidance and counseling, training programs, and other needed services, utilizing available resources to achieve maximum rehabilitation.
  • Maintains knowledge of accommodations/technology to remove or eliminate barriers to employment.
  • Interacts with the consumer to assess his/her needs and problems to determine the best solution vocationally and socially, and assists the consumer with improving interpersonal skills, understanding the labor market, and achieving successful employment.
  • Provides counseling to consumers, family members, and significant others in relation to the vocational plan, services provided, and the expected outcome.
  • Maintains adequate caseload flow and organization.
  • Schedules supervisory meetings with the consumer, returns phone calls, processes mail, and is responsible for the appropriate expenditure of public funds.
  • Maintains an extensive network of employer contacts and labor market information to assist consumers in achieving employment.
  • Other duties as assigned; Travel may be required.
