At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Psychologist position is responsible for providing psychological expertise for the clinical, educational and consultative aspect of the behavior health program. This position performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation and education by providing individual and group therapy and counseling.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Doctoral degree in psychology, or other related field from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited clinical psychology program.
  • PhD or PsyD


EXPERIENCE

  • Eight years of experience in individual and/or group counseling
  • Two years post-doctoral experience in a clinical psychology program preferred


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required

  • PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV rom the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) to practice in the state of Texas


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and standards pertaining to the provision of psychological services
  • Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnosis and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood
  • Knowledge of psychological counseling techniques, educational development test administration and interpretation, and interviewing and psychosocial/developmental assessment skills required


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs psychosocial evaluations of patients in the behavioral health program to consider all variables that may impact treatment plans and outcomes for patients.


SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in interprofessional care coordination meetings at the request of providers, patients, patient families or staff.
  • Oversees psychological evaluations and behavioral assessments and helps create a standardized level of care with interprofessional health care team.


QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Delivers psychological treatment to patients in the behavioral health program.
  • Responsible for timely documentation and communication to all members of the care team.
  • Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.


FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates in business development activities to establish referral pipelines.


GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Help to establish new clinical care models and treatment programs specific to behavioral health.
  • Maintains an awareness of current and changing trends, techniques, methods, and research in the field of clinical psychology and psychological therapy treatments for the specific patient population by attending workshops and professional seminars, reading journals, and external conferences in area of specialty/clinical discipline.
