Summary/Objective

The Community Liaison’s primary function is to contribute towards the implementation and continuation of a school environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support of all students. The position assists with student behavior management through restorative practices and modeling Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) throughout the building. The Community Liaison provides information, training, and community-based resources to support parents and facilitates community involvement in students’ successful attainment of an education. Additionally, the Community Liaison assists the School Director in the day-to-day operations of the school building.


Essential Functions

  • Implements Board policies and school regulations
  • Recommends, designs, and implements programs to meet the needs of students and the school
  • Encourages high standards of conduct and enforces discipline
  • Participates in Intervention Assistance Team (IAT) meetings
  • Serves as a member of the building leadership team (BLT)
  • Assists with the supervision of school-sponsored & co-curricular activities
  • Maintains effective public relations
  • Works alongside with the Dean of Students with community and parental involvement programs
  • Welcomes family and community partners into the district and schools
  • Manages the alignment of all activities and programs for families
  • Supports families in obtaining school and community resources
  • Participates in evening activities such as parent-teacher conferences and programs
  • Provides continual professional development on school, family, and community partnerships for all teachers, support staff, and administrators
  • Develops formal and informal two-way communication channels from school to home or community and from home or community to school
  • Serves as an advocate for students when involved in community programs and events
  • Acts as truancy contact between school and home
  • Works with families and community agencies to help link families to services and support they need to address issues affecting attendance
  • Participates in restorative circles with Director, Dean of Students, and Behavior Specialist
  • Participates in after school extra-curricular with students
  • Leads student mentoring group
  • Oversees in-school suspension room, lunch, and after school detention
  • Assists teaching staff with classroom management

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or 2 years of combination of education and/or related work experience
  • Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal
  • Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all employees
  • Knowledge of available community supports within area served

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice or related field preferred
  • Special education training preferable
  • Experience in working with diverse learners
