Position Summary
To help students develop those skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career-vocational development which will contribute to their growth as mature and responsible members of society.
Job Function And Responsibilities
- Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the area of school counseling
- Assists student support teams and committees on education
- Supports the growth of every student in the building
- Works diligently with all stakeholders to facilitate student success
- Develops, implements, and evaluates an annual, local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan
- Provides individual and group counseling and guidance
- Teaches whole-class lessons in the areas of social/emotional growth, educational planning and improvement, and career-vocational development based on needs assessments and counseling curriculum to students focused through the lens of selected student standards from the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success
- Provides orientation for new students, parents/guardians, and faculty
- Mediates conflict between students and teachers as well as students and students
- Improve parent/teacher relationships
- Consults with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and makes appropriate plans including potential community-based referrals in collaboration with the social worker.
- Assists with personalized services for students
- Provides appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents/guardians, and students
- Provides information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty in collaboration with the social worker
- Master's Degree in School Counseling or Related Field
- State of Alabama School Counselor certification
- School Counselor experience preferred
- Ability to manage a variety of tasks
- Ability to complete tasks quickly and correctly
