Job Summary The part time overnight advocate provide support, and advocacy to current shelter residents and Crisis Line callers, promote self-reliance by creating an empathic and caring atmosphere during the weekend shift. Performs required security related tasks and administrative services for the program during the shift. The position requires to be in the shelter during assigned work hours. The position cover Friday and Saturday weekly and Tuesday every other week from 8:pm to 8:00 am
Responsibilities
1. Foster an empathic and caring atmosphere for residents and staff.
2. Provide emotional support, advocacy and crisis intervention services for shelter residents and crisis line callers as need it.
3. Ensures security and safety of the residents in the shelter.
4. Implements House Guidelines and Peace at Home (PAH) Policies.
5. Provide assistance with resolving conflicts within the residents setting.
6. Conduct intakes and departures when needed.
7. Enters client activities into WS database system.
8. Support individuals and groups volunteering at the Shelter.
9. Attends monthly staff meeting and on-site training.
Crisis Line response:
1. Answers the PAH crisis line, which includes screening for eligibility to the PAH services,
information, referrals, and safety plan.
2. Appropriately document Crisis calls in WS data system.
3. Receives and process police and emergency room response calls.
Building Security:
4. Performs a physical walk-through of the shelter facility at least one time during the shift.
5. Frequently check security cameras and pager and responds to security concerns appropriately
6. Documents security concerns observations and actions taken.
Administrative Services:
7. Check in with the advocate present at beginning of shift, read all shifts e-mails and provide by
e-mail the shift report.
8. Performs office tasks (such as photocopying, collating, making residents folders), as required.
Other Duties:
1. Ensure that all shelter residents have needed supplies for personal hygiene, clothing and housekeeping items.
2. Oversee the assignment and completion of resident’s chores.
3. Other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Education.-Associate’s Degree in human services or related field or High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in social services.
- Experience.-Working in a communal living environment is preferred, but no required.
- Technical.-Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish preferred, but no required. Required basic computer skills.
- Social Skills.-Must be dependable, mature, must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations, must be able to work well independently and as a member of a team.
This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, bending, lifting, and frequent use of stairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and offices
- Perform routine janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal
- Restock cleaning supplies and hygiene materials as needed
- Follow established health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
- Support overall shelter operations to ensure a respectful and safe environment for all residents
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 lbs
- Regularly walking up and down stairs throughout the shift
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions
1. This position is required to stay at the shelter site throughout entire shift. Sleeping while on duty is not permitted.
2. Must successfully pass criminal and central registry checks.
3. Valid driver’s license is required.
4. Occasional out-of-town travel required for ongoing training provided by the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
