Somerset Academy Canyons is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Middle School Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. This position involves working closely with students to provide guidance, resources, and counseling services that promote personal growth and academic success. The middle school counselor will foster a positive environment that encourages students to reach their full potential while addressing individual needs.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling
  • Valid Florida Certification in School Counseling PK–12 OR eligibility for certification required
  • Experience working with students in an educational or counseling setting is required.
  • Strong skills in conflict management and behavioral health support.
  • Background in social work or mental health counseling is preferred.
  • Understanding cultural diversity counseling practices is preferred.
  • Proven ability in academic advising and developing educational plans for students.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate and engage diverse groups of individuals.

Core Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students, focusing on academic advising, personal development, and conflict management.
  • Develop and implement programs that address behavioral health and mental health issues among students.
  • Educate students on various topics including cultural diversity, social skills, and coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community resources to support student well-being.
  • Conduct assessments to identify student needs and create personalized action plans.
  • Facilitate workshops on topics such as stress management, study skills, and career exploration.
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student progress.
  • Advocate for students' needs within the school environment.
  • Enforce and uphold the school’s mission, vision, values, policies, culture, and model the school’s values in all interactions with students, colleagues, families, and the community
  • Work collaboratively as a team
  • Adhere to all child abuse reporting requirements/laws
  • Comply with the standards of conduct, ethics, and/or conflicts of interest for teachers and/or employees of the school
  • Attend department, staff, school, district, and parent meetings
  • Participate in various students and school activities
  • Perform supervisory duties as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principals (morning and afternoon duty, administer state tests, etc.)
  • Maintain current state licensure(s) and/or certification(s) as required by the law
  • Pursue and engage in opportunities for professional growth
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Administration
