Performs professional, specialized work involving the determination of prisoner eligibility for conditional release, pending adjudication/case disposition. Gathers information and prepares investigative reports for review by the presiding judge in determining the release or detention of a defendant. Performs investigative work dealing closely with detainees, law enforcement, and Court personnel. Work is performed under the supervision of the Counselor II, Pretrial Services, and is reviewed through conferences, reports, case reviews, and performance measures attained.


QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, or related field; minimum of six (6) months of experience working in the Criminal Justice System,


OR


  • Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree or related Associate’s Degree; minimum of two and a half (2 ½ ) years of related experience,


OR


  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four and a half (4 ½ ) years of related experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience screening arrestees/interviewing defendants (must specify on application),
  • Experience explaining conditions/guidelines of non-financial pretrial release (must specify on application),
  • Behavioral Science education and experience (must specify on application),
  • Specialized training in detention programs (must specify on application), and

  • Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
