Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is recruiting for a Psychologist. This position will typically work Monday-Friday with daytime hours.

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, and is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. Our overall service delivery goal is to provide specialized services in treatment, research, training and consultation.

Position Summary


As a Psychologist, you will carry out direct service activities, consultation, training, research, program evaluation, supervision of affiliate students, and other functions as assigned. Direct services include the assessment/evaluation and treatment of adolescent residents of MJTC. Other responsibilities:

  • Function as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Part of this function includes taking a clinical leadership role in the assessment of resident needs and the development of appropriate treatment interventions.
  • Provide training for staff in relevant topic areas and serve as a supervisor for psychology interns and affiliate students.
  • Research and program evaluation activities as part of the overall quality improvement efforts of the unit.

Salary Information


Starting annual salary* is $130,100, plus excellent benefits.

    • Salary includes $6.00/hour add-on for Doctorate and $5.00/hour add-on for WI licensure.
  • $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with MMHI in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,500 upon hire and $1,500 after completing probation.
  • 12-month probationary period is required. Pay schedule and range is 12/60.
  • Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details


All applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified candidates must have:

  • Licensure or eligibility** to obtain licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin. Licensure must be obtained by time of appointment. Please refer to the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services website for more information on licensing. ** Eligibility means the candidate has applied and is in the process of obtaining a license in the State of Wisconsin.

A well-qualified candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with patients with mental health illnesses in a forensic setting.
  • Experience performing forensic evaluations.
  • Experience providing supervision to interns or affiliate students.
