Wellness Counselor - Youth
Location: The Ring of Hope Youth Program-Greater Grand Crossing
Schedule: Part Time 4 days a week, 4 hours each day
Reports to: Wellness Manager
Hourly rate: $30.00 per hour
Overview:
The Wellness Counselor - Youth is responsible for supporting the emotional and mental well-being of youth participating in the Enrichment Program.
This role will focus exclusively on working with youth ages 7–18, providing both group and individual counseling within a structured, safe, and engaging program environment. The Youth Wellness Counselor will play a vital role in helping participants navigate trauma, build emotional resilience, and develop positive behaviors that support long-term success and violence prevention.
Key Responsibilities:
Youth Assessment & Support Planning
- Conduct age-appropriate intake assessments to understand each participant’s emotional, behavioral, and social needs
- Develop individualized support plans aligned with each youth’s goals and development
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with organizational standards
- Individual & Group Counseling
- Facilitate individual counseling sessions to support emotional well-being and personal development
- Lead structured group counseling sessions focused on emotional regulation, peer relationships, conflict resolution, and self-awareness
- Create a safe and supportive environment where youth feel comfortable expressing themselves
Trauma-Informed & Violence Prevention Support
- Implement trauma-informed practices to support youth impacted by community violence and adverse experiences
- Integrate violence prevention strategies such as conflict resolution, decision-making, and emotional regulation
- Help youth develop healthy coping mechanisms and positive behavior patterns
Behavioral Support & Engagement
- Support youth in managing behaviors within the enrichment program setting
- Reinforce positive behavior, teamwork, and respect among participants
- Provide real-time guidance during program activities
Documentation & Progress Tracking
- Document counseling sessions, progress notes, and behavioral observations
- Monitor and track youth progress toward emotional and behavioral goals
- Provide input for program reporting and evaluation
Community & Program Integration
- Participate in enrichment program activities to build trust and engagement with youth
- Support group discussions, workshops, and wellness-focused activities
- Promote mental health awareness in a youth-friendly and culturally relevant way
Service Delivery
- All services are provided on-site within the enrichment program environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
- Experience working directly with youth
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and youth development principles
- Ability to facilitate both individual and group sessions
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
