Overview

The School Social Worker is responsible for providing all required counseling mandates as found on each student's Individualized Education Plan as well as working with school staff, outside agencies and each child's parent/guardian to ensure the appropriate development of each student.


Responsibilities

  • Supports a caseload of students and conducts weekly mandated counseling sessions, both individual and group.
  • Responds to student crises and facilitates ACS and 911 calls.
  • In a crisis, accompanies students to the hospital if needed.
  • Provides counseling to students and families.
  • Conducts home visits as needed (in partnership with another staff member).
  • Assists families in advocating for children's and families’ rights both within and with agencies or organizations that interface with families and whose services impact upon the child.
  • Act as a source of support and provide referrals to parents for community resources and services.
  • Conduct parent meetings as needed.
  • Participates in CSE meetings, grade level and school level meetings.
  • Assists in procurement of required documents/records pertinent to the student.
  • Participates in managing communications with parents/family members, as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with special needs students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the parents / guardians of special needs students.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively advocate for students in your care.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure student emotional health and safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow administrative directives and school mandates as per student counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with classroom staff.
  • Willingness to serve students beyond the confines of a regular school day.
  • Willingness to assist when a student needs emergency assistance through the 911 system (hospital, police, psychiatric intervention).
  • Willingness to visit parents / guardians beyond the geography of the school.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist parents and guardians in understanding the academic and socio-emotional needs of their children and developing ways for them to influence home activities that will enhance academic and socio-emotional growth.


Desired Qualifications

  • NYS Certification as a School Social Worker, LCSW or LMSW.
  • Experience as a school social worker or as a social worker in a school setting.
  • Spanish fluency is required.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and walking stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Traveling long and short distances.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 10-month position. This is an On-Site position; no hybrid or remote. The regular hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, 7:55 am to 3:55 pm in addition to any special events to which all staff are expected to attend.


Salary Range

$75,000-$90,000 (Based on Experience)
