Education Counselor - Behavioral Health

This role is full-time, M-F 8-5 pm at our McKinney clinic.

What You’ll Do

  • Acts as a liaison between BPA, families, Charter, and community educational partners to ensure patients receive the educational component of treatment.
  • Assist with continued school enrollment or enrollment into a new academic placement (Charter)
  • Coordinates with school districts and school counselors regarding individual educational needs, including Charter.
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback to parents, schools, and patients regarding educational needs.
  • Employs appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as required and according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the program and protocol (policy and procedures) guidelines.
  • Comply with the established policy and procedure requiring a safe, clean and therapeutic environment.
  • Develop an educational plan for the student while they are enrolled in BasePoint.
  • Coordinate services with the student’s school district to ensure the student’s academic success while enrolled in BPA.
  • Support the client and family in navigating school systems (i.e 504 and IEP plans)
  • Collaborate with client and educational community partners to create a Back to School Plan, helping support the transition back to a traditional school environment if applicable.
  • Notify school of transition plans and schedules
  • Discuss with the clinical team any concerns with students’ educational needs.
  • Discuss with the Director of Academics & Vocational Services any concerns with specific academic needs.
  • Assist with milieu management as needed, to include front office coverage, check-in/out process, line of sight, dismissal and administrative duties as required.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required

Experience: 1 year of behavioral health or relevant teaching experience.

Requirements: CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact. May be required to work flexible hours.
