Position Summary: The Counselor Aide Manager works closely as a member of the administrative team at Thunderbird Treatment Center. This position oversees the Counselor Aide support team, including Counselor Aide Supervisors, Counselor Aides, and on-call Counselor Aides, to ensure staffing and operations meet agency needs and that Policies and Procedures are adhered to. The Counselor Aide Manager is accessible to the Counselor Aide team members to ensure that patient safety and security is provided for residents at all times. This position professionally handles personnel matters, violations, incidents or other matters.


Organizational Structure/Reporting Relationships: The Counselor Aide Manager is a part of the Residential Operations team and has direct reports.

Job Responsibilities


  • Provide supervision to Counselor Aide staff and maintain effective and efficiency-driven performance among all members of the team.
  • Complete electronic time-keeping entries of Counselor Aide staff in a timely manner and address discrepancies when necessary.
  • Conduct staff appraisals and follow up on staff development plans accordingly.
  • Ensure that staff are informed of organizational and program Policies, Procedures and protocols, and are properly trained in all aspects of their job duties and responsibilities
  • Ensure that patient health, safety, and facility security policies and procedures are adhered to at all times, i.e., that the facility is regularly monitored for security and safety.
  • Be knowledgeable of all emergency procedures and ensure that they are conducted properly when called for. Respond to patient health needs in accordance with procedure. Ensure that all incidents (safety, medical, behavioral) are properly documented and that the information is forwarded to the supervisory staff.
  • Maintain Counselor Aide staff work schedules to cover day, swing, graveyard shifts, sick leave, vacations, and emergencies.
  • Address personnel issues immediately and conduct investigations of any staff issues in consultation with the Residential Director of Operations or designee.
  • Be knowledgeable of local and state residential treatment facility requirements.
  • Provide supervision to the Counselor Aide team to ensure that processes and protocols are consistent among all team members
  • Be knowledgeable of patient medication distribution and monitoring protocol.
  • Encourage members of the Counselor Aide team to function effectively and efficiently as a whole by communicating effectively and as team players.
  • Demonstrate proper adherence to agency policies and procedures and use of agency materials, and instruct staff as needed.
  • Attend meetings, committees, and in-service trainings as assigned and required.
  • Actively participate in internal quality-improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality-improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal/state/local laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma/GED. Higher education in the Public Health and/or Social and Human Services field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working at an inpatient facility (i.e., treatment center, rehabilitation center, etc.).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk grounds regularly; uphill, upstairs, and at night.
  • Valid WA state driver's license and ability to drive agency vehicle.
  • Ability to work varied shifts (Days, Swing, and Graveyard).
  • Ability to de-escalate and handle client safety/security issues.
