Gem Prep staff are expected to possess each of these same competencies.Self-Aware, Self-Directed, Self-DisciplinedCreative Problem-SolverSkilled Communicator and CollaboratorCivic-MindedPosition SummaryThe School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, and students, the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.Key ResponsibilitiesSummarize, interpret and communicate assessment results in a meaningful, understandable way to all consumers, teachers, parents, students, administrators, ancillary personnel and other professionals.Communicates effectively, both orally an din writing with students, teachers, parents, administrators and staff members.Interacts with students and educators in a way that fosters their growth. Maintains reliability and confidentiality.Administers appropriate formal and informal individual tests in the areas of intelligence, personality, adaptive behavior and learning difficulties.Participate in annual reviews of special education students as directed.

Keep informed of current research and literature in the field of school psychology. This includes conducting independent research, providing in-service training and attending personal and professional growth workshops, meetings, conferences and conventions.Assist teachers with data gathering techniques as a vehicle to stating goals and evaluating progress in behavior terms. Be knowledgeable of and appropriately recommend materials, activities and behavioral management systems to all consumers who deal with children.Serve as a liaison with a wide variety of both school and community professionals and paraprofessionals to provide the maximum services to students.Recommend corrective and/or preventive strategies designed to develop effective problem solving and coping skills of school personnel, parents, and students.Consult with parents, administrators, and teachers whenever necessary and as requested. Attend staff, in-services, professional, and inter-agency meetings as appropriate and as requested.Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities in Special Education as the Director of Special Services may assign.Conducts individual and group counseling sessions for students experiencing problems in which behavior management, academic and psychological assistance are necessary.

This does not include long term psychotherapy.Services as a consultant in mental health for teachers, parents and administrators.Prepares and submits required reports relative to the identification and placement of exceptional children.QualificationsHolds a Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with a School Psychologist Endorsement (K-12)Knowledge of federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy governing special education, and demonstrated ability to effectively provide testing, psychological evaluation, and counseling servicesExperience in a classroom which may include professional teaching experience, student teaching, or special education practicumBroad knowledge of theories of individual and group guidance techniques, elementary and/or secondary school guidance program design, and career educational information and placementStrong background in the use of technologyRelates extremely well to studentsDemonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community groups and organizationsExcellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skillsAble to work under pressure and deadlinesMaintain confidentiality of staff and studentsWorking at Gem PrepWe hire and develop excellent educators and provide strong support.
