School Social Worker

Position Title: School Social Worker

Location: Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District

Salary/Pay Scale: $45,729 (+ $2,200 Master's) per the CSUFSD TAC Contract

Position Summary/Purpose:

In the Cheektowaga-Sloan UFSD, the faculty and staff are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment that recognizes all students' unique needs and talents by integrating character education with a critical-thinking curriculum. The emphasis is on teaching the whole child to become a lifelong learner, best prepared for college, their careers, and beyond.


RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS

  • Provide targeted mental health support through individual and group counseling to address developmental stressors, improve classroom engagement, and enhance students' social-emotional competencies
  • Proactively build and maintain trust-based relationships with students, families, and staff to create a sense of belonging and safety within the school community
  • Act as school liaison to the Department of Social Services (CPS) worker assigned to the Cheektowaga-Sloan School District
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to provide inclusive classroom-based support, utilizing positive behavioral strategies and restorative circles to enhance student engagement and academic persistence
  • Be responsible for assessment and intervention with students and families
  • Be a part of the Crisis Intervention Team
  • Attend CSE meetings for students
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of child and adolescent development to design and implement trauma-informed interventions that align with students' developmental stages and support their success in the classroom environment
  • Serve as the Restorative Practice Liaison to assist with the Restorative Practice implementation plan at the building
  • Facilitate restorative circles and conferences to resolve conflicts and repair harm
  • Actively participate as a core member of the District Restorative Practice Committee to align building-level actions with district-wide strategic goals
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the district and external providers, managing a network of community partnerships to provide students and families with targeted advocacy and streamlined access to essential social services
  • Coordinate various programs and services at the district and community levels, including the district's adherence to the Dignity for All Students Act regulations
  • Provide support and share expertise with the school community
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or district administration

Requirements:

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW-MSW plus NYSED licensure required)

Preferred:

  • NYS School Social Work Certification
