NaphCare is hiring a Psychiatrist to join our team of medical professionals in the ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS - WILLIAM E DONALDSON in Bessemer, Alabama.
As a Correctional Psychiatrist, you will oversee clinical responsibility for the mental health programs within the facility, while working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health needs.
ResponsibilitiesThe Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnosing mental health conditions to facility residents that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Additional responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
- Providing medication management, therapy, and other evidence-based treatment plans to address mental health needs
- Oversee the completion of mental health screenings and evaluations performed by others
- Responding to acute mental health crises within the facility
- Supporting the rehabilitation of patients and facilitating their successful transition back into the community
- Coordinate, lead and participate in educational training activities related to mental health care
- Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensuring staff are responsive to patients’ needs
Education / Licenses / Certifications
- Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Psychiatrist in Alabama
- A current DEA registration in Alabama
- Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
- Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills and have strong computer skills.
- Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals, correctional staff and judges
- Ability to interpret and analyze data to create treatment plans
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
