The School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of middle school students. This position is ideal for a passionate educator committed to equity, student advocacy, and preparing students for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Counseling

  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on academic, social, and emotional development

  • Support students in navigating peer relationships, personal challenges, and school expectations

  • Lead and support advisory and social-emotional learning (SEL) programming

Academic Programming & Scheduling

  • Develop and manage student schedules in compliance with NYS requirements and school programming

  • Monitor student progress using academic and attendance data

  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support student achievement and intervention planning

Data & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation in the student information system

  • Track and analyze academic performance, attendance, and student outcomes

  • Support standardized testing logistics and communicate results to families

Family & Community Engagement

  • Conduct family meetings to review academic progress and school expectations

  • Support student transitions, including onboarding transfer students

  • Connect students and families with enrichment opportunities and external resources

Schoolwide Collaboration

  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings and collaborate with Special Education staff

  • Support summer school coordination and academic interventions

  • Assist with staff training on SEL, mandated reporting, and student support practices

  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling or a related field
  • Valid New York State School Counselor certification or currently in the process of obtaining certification

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a school setting

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and educational technology
