Compensation

The starting compensation for this role is $290,000 per year; final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications.

Pyramid Healthcare is seeking an accomplished and compassionate Medical Director to provide executive clinical leadership across our behavioral health and substance use treatment programs.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced MD or DO who wants to combine leadership, strategy, and patient impact within a respected and growing healthcare organization.

As Medical Director, you will oversee medical services, guide provider teams, strengthen quality outcomes, ensure regulatory excellence, and collaborate with operational leaders to elevate care delivery across residential, outpatient, inpatient, and community-based programs.

Location & Travel Requirements

  • Preferred candidate residence is Virginia or close to it.
  • Regional travel to Pyramid Healthcare facilities is required
  • Must be available for on-site leadership presence, clinical support, and operational collaboration as needed

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all medical services
  • Ensure safe, compliant, evidence-based patient care
  • Supervise physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical staff
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategy, planning, and growth
  • Develop and improve medical policies, procedures, and standards
  • Support integrated care alongside behavioral health, nursing, and clinical teams
  • Lead quality assurance, documentation excellence, and performance improvement
  • Assist with provider recruitment, credentialing, and onboarding
  • Provide consultation for complex medical and psychiatric cases

Psychiatry / ACTT Leadership Opportunities (When Applicable)

  • Psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management
  • Collaborate with Assertive Community Treatment Teams (ACTT)
  • Supervise psychiatric APP providers
  • Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary care meetings
  • Serve as medical liaison with external agencies and payors

Qualifications

  • MD or DO required
  • Active unrestricted medical license required
  • Candidate must hold or be willing to obtain medical licensure in North Carolina and/or Virginia
  • Board Certified / Board Eligible in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty preferred
  • Leadership experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or addiction treatment settings preferred
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and clinical judgment
