Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team on a contract basis, with a specialized focus on oncology-integrated behavioral health. In this role, you will provide expert counseling and support to patients battling substance use issues alongside cancer treatment, ensuring holistic care that addresses both physical and mental health needs. Your expertise will help guide patients through recovery, manage co-occurring mental health conditions, and foster resilience during challenging times. Requirements

  • Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings with a focus on patient assessment and treatment planning.
  • Strong knowledge of psychotherapy modalities including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and behavior management strategies.
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques, crisis management protocols, and trauma-informed care such as PTSD treatment approaches.
  • Experience working in hospital or home & community care environments is highly desirable.
  • Ability to navigate medical terminology, medical documentation standards, and electronic health record systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10) for accurate diagnostic documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills for conducting intake interviews, patient education, and family counseling sessions.
  • Certification or licensure as required by state law for addiction counseling or clinical social work; additional training in addiction medicine or mental health counseling is preferred.
