Job Summary

The Genetic Counselor:

  • Assesses individual or family risk for a variety of inherited conditions, such as cancer, cardiovascular, and genetic disorders.
  • Offers risk management services.
  • Provides genetic counseling services to pregnant women, couples planning a pregnancy, couples who are at risk for having a baby with genetic condition, or women who have experienced pregnancy loss among others.
  • Recruits patients for high risk assessment programs and facilitates appropriate research enrollment.
  • Provides community outreach and participates in collaborative research projects, program meetings, and program development.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Master's Degree

Experience

  • Prior experience as a Genetic Counselor preferred

Certification and Licensure

  • Certification by the American Board of Genetics Counseling (or eligible for certification)
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Pennsylvania as a Genetic Counselor or has successfully attained a temporary provisional Genetic Counselor License with the intent to sit for the ABGC examination within 90 days of hire or applied for license in the state of Pennsylvania
