SUMMARY:
Join Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, Inc. as a Residential Aide, where you will play a vital, hands-on role in creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for shelter residents while directly impacting their daily stability and long-term well-being.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Residential Aide reports to the Shift Supervisor under the leadership of the Director of Operations


SCHEDULE:
35 hours per week with 3 shifts available
  • 7AM - 3PM
  • 3PM - 11PM
  • 11PM - 7AM


POSITION TYPE:
Fulltime - requires flexibility to cover shifts in the event of staffing shortages or emergencies


RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE:
  • Support resident intake, orientation, and daily shelter operations, ensuring access to essential items and a clean, welcoming environment
  • Maintain safety and security by monitoring the premises and responding effectively to emergencies, conflicts, and crisis situations
  • Provide compassionate, day-to-day support to residents, including conflict mediation and connections to social, medical, and employment resources
  • Collaborate with staff and maintain accurate documentation to ensure coordinated care and a strong, supportive community atmosphere


ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Residential Aides provide shift coverage in case of staff call outs or emergencies
  • Applicants should understand that, by accepting this position, there is an expectation of flexibility and reliability, including availability to support coverage in the event of call-outs or emergencies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor or program leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, with empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to diverse populations, along with basic knowledge of crisis intervention and conflict resolution, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • Bilingual/Multilingual a plus
  • Food Handlers certification to be obtained within first 90 days of employment
  • CPR/First Aid , F02 - Certificate of Fitness to be obtained within first 90 days of employment, F80 - Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters to be obtained within first 90 days of employment
  • Knowledge of DHS (Department of Homeless Shelters)
  • Comfortable navigating digital platforms and workplace technologies


OTHER SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills, with sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintains a professional, resident focused, person–oriented approach with a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Works both independently and collaboratively, showing initiative, reliability, and the ability to identify and resolve routine issues while fostering a professional and supportive environment
