Position Overview

The CIT Lead Counselor is responsible for guiding and mentoring 15-year-old campers enrolled in the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. This role focuses on leadership development, skill-building, and preparing campers to become future camp counselors while ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive camp experience.

  • Mentorship & Leadership Development
    • Serve as a positive role model for CITs
    • Teach leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
    • Provide constructive feedback and support individual growth
  • Program Facilitation
    • Plan and lead CIT-specific activities, workshops, and discussions
    • Coordinate opportunities for CITs to assist with younger camper groups
    • Create a structured program that balances learning and fun
  • Supervision & Safety
    • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all CITs
    • Maintain awareness of camper whereabouts and well-being at all times
    • Enforce camp rules and promote a respectful environment
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with camp leadership and other counselors
    • Communicate regularly about CIT progress and any concerns
    • Assist in integrating CITs into broader camp activities
  • Evaluation & Feedback
    • Track and evaluate CIT development throughout the session
    • Provide end-of-session feedback or reports for each participant

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old (or as required by camp regulations)
  • Previous camp experience preferred (especially as a counselor or CIT)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to mentor and connect with teenagers
  • Enthusiastic, patient, and adaptable

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with teens (ages 13-15)
  • Background in education, youth development, or recreation
  • Conflict resolution and group facilitation skills
