Job Title:

Classroom Behavior Specialist/Milieu Counselor

Location: On-Site – Boston

Position Type: Full-Time, 10-month position

Summary Of Position

The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.

As a member of a three-person, multidisciplinary classroom team, the Classroom Behavior Specialist/Milieu Counselor ensures that students are assisted using effective behavioral support strategies. The Classroom Behavior Specialist/Milieu Counselor utilizes positive behavior interventions and strong relationships to support students in all daily activities. This individual provides active supervision both within and outside of the classroom, models social interactions between students, and intervenes effectively in periods of behavioral dysregulation. Additionally, the Classroom Behavior Specialist/Milieu Counselor collects and analyzes daily behavioral data, completes necessary reports, and supports in the implementation of behavior support plans.

Essential Duties

  • Maintains a safe, respectful, responsible, and inclusive learning environment by supporting students and working proactively to reduce behavioral difficulties.
  • Implements behavioral response procedures.
  • Provides crisis intervention and support, as necessary.
  • Utilizes physical management techniques in compliance with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) procedures.
  • Actively works with classroom team to develop appropriate behavioral interventions and implement behavior plans for students.
  • Collects and analyzes daily behavioral data.
  • Maintains student attendance and lunch count data on a daily basis.
  • Monitors and participates in school-based activities with students, modeling positive social interactions and adaptive behaviors.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, though not required.

Experience

  • 1+ year(s) of related experience working with children/adolescents.
  • Ability to lead and manage in crisis situations
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to behavioral challenges quickly and safely.

Training

  • Strong communication, behavioral support skills, empathy, and curiosity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Commitment to working in an integrity-driven environment.

Salary: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
