Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Elementary Principal, the Elementary (K-5th Grade) Counselor will help children and young adults, especially those who have faced substantial life obstacles that previously have prevented academic success. The school counselor will support the school’s mission and collaborate with individuals and organizations to promote all students’ academic, career and personal/social development. This position will encompass much of the standard areas of Nevada School Counseling Program model, but will go above and beyond, which might include non-traditional duties, e.g., test coordination, educational field trips, after-school homework administration, and scheduling to meet the needs of our students.
The Elementary Counselor will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy’s professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards. Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas. Amplus Academy has a current K-12 campus and a second K-5 campus.
Terms of Employment: 10-month per Contract of Employment (179 Day Calendar)
Salary:
The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years’ experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.
Salary Range: $58,350- $80,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERS
Counseling Program and Services
- Administers an appropriate guidance and counseling program that aligns with the Nevada State School Counseling Program Student Standards.
- Delivers a system of individual student planning, responsive services, and system support within the guidance curriculum.
- Conducts goal-oriented counseling responsive to identified student needs relative to student achievement and school success.
- Completes all assigned counseling duties and abides by the ASCA Code of Ethics.
Student Achievement and Support
- Collaborates with school personnel to assist students with developing skills that support academic achievement, high school graduation, and lifelong learning.
- Creates and maintains 504 and behavior intervention plans.
- Assists in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
- Assists in the creation and monitoring of student schedules.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records using Infinite Campus as appropriate.
- Complies with school and State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) policies and regulations as well as state and federal laws.
- Assists with recess, lunch duty, carpool and other group activity coverage.
- Participates as a member of the school-based crisis team.
- Participates in the Lighthouse Team as part of the Leader in Me program.
- Assist the Principal by gathering and documenting student, staff, and/or witness statements related to behavior referrals; review and triage incoming referrals to assess urgency and facilitate restorative conversations with and among students.
Communication and Collaboration
- Works professionally with administration, staff, parents, and the community.
- Works cooperatively with students, parents/guardians, peers, and community members.
Professional Development
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
- Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in school counseling.
- Facilitates professional development for teachers and staff focused on student development, social-emotional development, or other areas of expertise that support student achievement and growth.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in school counseling, education psychology, or similar field
- Nevada Teaching License with School Counselor Endorsement required
- Prior school counselor experience (2 years+) preferred

This type of work requires occasional or frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling during crisis scenarios such as hard lockdowns, earthquake drills, etc.
Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area.
Ability to operate, activate and use a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
