Position Overview:
The 4th Judicial District Public Defender’s Office is seeking a compassionate entry-level Forensic Social Worker, with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), to join our defense team in Cocke County. This grant-funded position plays a vital role in supporting clients through advocacy, case coordination, and re-entry planning. The successful candidate will collaborate with the 4th Judicial District Public Defender’s Office MSW Forensic Social Worker to reduce recidivism.
**This position requires the physical capability to climb stairs. This position requires attending court and meeting with clients in Cocke County Jail.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct assessments with justice-involved clients to identify psychosocial needs
· Assist with mitigation planning, community resource referrals, and service coordination
· Collaborate with attorneys to gather background information, records, and social histories
· Support re-entry planning and stabilization efforts (e.g., housing, employment, mental health care, substance use treatment)
· Maintain accurate case notes and assist in data collection for grant reporting
· Attend court hearings and meetings with clients as needed
· Foster relationships with community partners and service providers
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited institution (required)
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy for underserved populations
· Ability to work collaboratively in a legal setting with attorneys and court personnel
· Basic understanding of the criminal justice system and community-based resources
Pay: $42,000.00 per year
