Position Summary
The Clinical Lead provides clinical oversight, documentation quality assurance, and treatment guidance for clinicians providing outpatient behavioral health services in Virginia and North Carolina. This role ensures compliance with payer and regulatory standards, supports audit readiness, and promotes high-quality clinical care. The Clinical Lead maintains a small caseload while leading documentation review and clinical development activities.
This position requires active, unrestricted clinical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW or LPC).
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Documentation & Compliance
- Review and approve clinical documentation:
- Service notes
- Assessments
- Treatment plans
- Reviews/updates
- Sign/co-sign documentation as required
- Ensure compliance with Virginia and North Carolina Medicaid and commercial payer standards
- Monitor documentation timeliness and completeness
- Provide written and verbal feedback to clinicians
- Submit and/or oversee authorization requests for North Carolina psychotherapy services in accordance with payer requirements
Quality Assurance & Audit Support
- Conduct routine chart audits
- Assist with external audits and medical record requests
- Track documentation deficiencies and trends
- Implement documentation improvement strategies
Clinical Leadership
- Lead monthly clinical team meeting (documentation training, case consultation, updates)
- Provide guidance on treatment planning and interventions
- Support clinician onboarding and skill development
- Serve as clinical resource for complex cases
Direct Clinical Services
- Maintain caseload of 5–10 clients/week
- Provide outpatient psychotherapy services
- Complete documentation within required timeframes
Schedule & Time Allocation (25 hrs/week)
- Documentation review & QA: 10–12 hrs
- Caseload (5–10 clients): 8–10 hrs
- Meetings & clinician consultation: 2–3 hrs
- Audit/records/admin: 2–3 hrs
Qualifications
Required
- Active, unrestricted Virginia license as LCSW or LPC
- Minimum 3 years post-licensure clinical experience
- Strong documentation and treatment planning skills
- Knowledge of Medicaid/commercial payer requirements
- Experience with prior authorization processes for behavioral health services
- Experience mentoring or supervising clinicians
Preferred
- Knowledge of North Carolina psychotherapy authorization processes
- Prior clinical lead/QA role
- Audit or accreditation experience
- Telehealth and EHR experience

Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
