Position Summary The Admissions Counselor will design, manage, and execute both on- and off-campus recruiting events for the School of Art and Design; oversee the creation and distribution of print and digital media used for recruitment; and coordinate scholarship applications and review. it is imperative that all employees conduct themselves in a professional, respectful and collegial manner while carrying out their duties in representing the School, the College, and Northern Illinois University. Productive and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, university departments and the external organizations are both a requirement and an essential function of this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recruiting – 60%
Organize, manage, and participate in both on and off-campus recruiting events
Coordinate and assist faculty participation in recruitment events including Open House, National Portfolio Days, and site visits to schools and community colleges
Manage and respond to inquiries from potential new students
Participate in School of Art student orientation events and provide assistance to the Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising
Provide up-to-date programmatic information to new freshmen recruits and potential transfer students
Maintain confidential recruitment records
Prepare budget proposals for annual recruitment activities
Prepare data analysis of recruiting yield from recruitment activities
Liaise with community colleges to assist with program articulation for potential transfer students Coordinate Scholarship Applications & Review – 20%
Manage applications and coordinate with faculty in the review processes conducted in relation to all School of Art Scholarships related to recruitment Creation & Management of Publicity Materials – 20%
In consultation with the CVPA Director of Marketing and Communications, prepare hard copy and electronic School of Art publicity materials as required for recruiting
Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, or related field.
Experience working with diverse populations. Additional Requirements (SPS)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications (SPS)
Experience in admissions in a university setting.
Experience with admissions CRM systems (e.g. SLATE).
Bilingual a plus. Physical demands/requirements
Regular office related duties
Sitting for extended periods of time
Using computer/electronic equipment for extended periods of time
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 lbs.
Some travel will be required.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date 04/01/2026 Standard Hours Per Week 37.50 Working Hours Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, some evenings & weekends as needed. Salary $44,000.16/annually; NIU offers a robust benefits package. Earn Type Salary
