Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a Residential Counselor in providing direct assistance, support/supportive counseling and skills training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a residential facility. Our Residential Counselors are dedicated and compassionate and work in group homes, supported living, in-home, homes of families, and other settings.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a human services field such as psychology, sociology, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field; one year of experience in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years of related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred; related experience in a group home setting preferred. Medication Administration certification preferred. CPR & First Aid preferred. Experience using an electronic health record preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the nature of intellectual disabilities and the role of residential support services. Ability to supervise and provide direct care to consumers in a residential setting; to develop and implement individualized service plans; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to write detailed and comprehensive progress notes preferred; working knowledge of person-centered principles preferred. Time management skills preferred.Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points in the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state records must be obtained by applicant and presented at interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.DutiesDuties include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides direct supports to adults with developmental disabilities, including but not limited to cooking, feeding, bathing, medication administration, transportation, medical interventions, community integration and inclusion, socialization and recreational activities, and money management in a group home setting;
- Monitors maintenance of consumer files to ensure compliance with agency, state and federal requirements;
- Maintains facility inspections, vehicle maintenance records and reports;
- Implements treatment plans, health and safety plans, and behavioral plans;
- Participates in an on-call rotation to ensure adequate coverage and assistance in cases of emergency;
- Maintains a healthy, safe, and clean living environment for individuals;
- Implements, monitors, and documents individual service delivery; prepares and maintains casework and related documentation using an electronic health record (e.g. Medicaid Waiver documentation, progress notes) as required in the delivery of services; and
- Performs other work as required.
