The purpose of this position is to provide service to student and family traffic in the busy Financial Aid Office and to ensure that student service is maintained at a high level of excellence. This position will facilitate communication and education regarding financial aid programs and processes, in a confidential manner, while supporting the administrative staff with daily operations by coordinating several key processes.
Examples of Duties
- Serve as walk-in financial aid counselor for prospective and current students. Educate families on financial aid programs, regulations, various loan programs as well as document, financial aid, and loan application completion assistance.
- Assist with student/parent phone and email inquiries regarding financial aid information.
- Responsible for Pell & Direct Loan processing, including origination, maintenance, and resolving all rejects.
- Responsible for loading & processing ISIRS daily and resolving any non-posted ISIRS.
- Assist with tracking verification and award documents into financial aid system; follow up with students for missing or incomplete documents.
- Support Director in reviewing ISIR file preparation for packaging.
- Supervise and train work study students to support the department.
- Financial literacy and education outreach to prospective and current students.
- Presentations and Admissions events support, such as Open Houses, Information Days, and New Student Orientations.
- Responsible for preparing and completing HE 111 presentations.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of one (1) year experience in financial aid, or a comparable combination of experience from other professional positions.
Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities
- Ability to navigate and understand the university student administrative management systems, and State and Federal financial aid program regulations and policies.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on multi-tasking, transactional service.
- Proven customer service experience, focused on client needs, well-developed listening skills, and demonstrated capacity to follow through on requests and problem resolution.
- Ability to maintain a professional and pleasant manner and promote a friendly atmosphere.
