- Completion of a Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Sociology or an equivalent field at a four year college or university.
- At least two years experience providing individual and/or group counseling for a caseload of patients.
- Must be licensed in TN as an Addiction Counselor, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or clinical social worker or in the process of becoming licensed.
- Assess assigned patients and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Conducts individual and family counseling sessions with assigned patients.
- Documents all counseling sessions with patients in accordance with facility policy and procedures, State regulations, and Joint Commission standards within the established timeframe.
- Conducts group therapy sessions on a regular basis as scheduled.
- Conducts and facilitates psychoeducational groups as assigned and scheduled.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of counseling theory and techniques, as well as the current DSM diagnoses and codes.
- Develops and implements appropriate therapeutic activities and/or programs as clinical needs indicate.
- Addresses issues identified in the treatment plans and any other clinical issues that occur.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the group process, eating disorders, mental illness, substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, and other designated skill areas.
- Demonstrates ability to build therapeutic rapport with patients and family members.
- Conducts emergency counseling sessions as requested by staff or patients.
- Appropriately de-escalates disruptive or crisis situations.
- Is appropriately available to patients during times of emotional, physical, or life crisis.
