Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. FLSA Status Exempt Job Role Summary The Trauma Counselor Legacy House provides counseling, advocacy, and case management services for clients seeking services for trauma caused by violence. This position is responsible for providing information and training to community partners and to the general public through community outreach. Essential Functions and Responsibilities • Meets with clients and/or family members and assesses client needs related to trauma and other care coordination needs. • Collaborates with clients (and supervisor/team) to prepare individual plans of care to address assessed needs • Manages a caseload of clients; identifies therapeutic, advocacy and care need Engages other team members in meeting these needs as indicated • Assists in completing and filing applications for orders of protection • Facilitates a variety of individual, family and group advocacy and therapeutic interventions • Provides victim advocacy to access case management needs, services or other coordination of care as indicated by client need • Regularly evaluates and updates progress and revises care plans at intervals determined by guidelines, consulting with client, family and team in this process • Acts as an advocate for the client in meeting their needs • Completes documentation of activities in an electronic record and written reports or data entry requirements in an accurate and timely manner • Continuously evaluates clients' mental status and trauma-recovery needs, reporting progress to the team and treating psychiatrist, if applicable • Identifies community resources and assists clients in accessing these resources • Provides indirect service to external agencies and community through consultation and education • Attends court or other legal meetings and provides support for clients who testify or attend court hearings • Serves as a coach or trainer for interns and/or other staff • Attends court or other legal meetings and provides support for clients who testify or attend court hearings Job Requirements • Master's degree in social work plus minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health setting • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), LMHC or LMFT required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Ability to fulfill duties noted in area specific competencies (Adult, Acute, Youth, Family Systems, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, other trauma-related competencies) • Knowledge of trauma-based care and victim services • Understanding of and ability to implement a strengths-based, community treatment model • Strong interpretation skills with ability to be both clear and concise in written and verbal communication • Solid knowledge of psychiatric/addiction diagnoses and understanding of their impact on behavior and all life domains • Solid knowledge of psychotropic medications and their uses and side effects • Willingness and ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team • Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills • Ability to interpret and apply complex directives/information/regulations • Crisis intervention skills MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING BASIC COMPETENCIES IF APPLICABLE • Mental Status Exam • Applications for Orders of Protection • Applications for Victim Assistance Funds • Sexual Assault Survivor Advocacy • Domestic Violence Survivor Advocacy & Shelters • CPS/APS Reporting Guidelines and Procedures • Confidentiality & HIPAA • Suicide Assessment & Prevention (including Immediate Detentions) • DSM IV/DSM V (and subsequent versions) • Overview of best-practices related to trauma interventions • Safety Planning • Professional Boundaries • Legal • Annual Education • Addictions • Age-Related Competency • EPIC and Apricot Victim Services navigation (electronic record) & documentation procedures and /or other data management software used by Legacy House • Maintains compliance with Legacy House & Eskenazi Health requirements (annual PPD/chest x-ray, annual vaccines, etc.) Accredited by The Joint Commission and named as one of Indiana's best employers by Forbes magazine for two consecutive years and the top hospital in the state for community benefit by the Lown Institute, Eskenazi Health's programs have received national recognition while also offering new health care opportunities to the local community.
