Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor / Clinician to join our behavioral health team. Active CADC II certification is required. In this role, you will provide outpatient counseling services to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
You will work with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and individuals with disabilities, using evidence-based practices to support recovery and long-term wellness.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including intake evaluations and diagnostic coding using ICD-9 and ICD-10 standards, to determine treatment needs and develop personalized care plans.
- Deliver individual and group therapy sessions utilizing modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis to address addiction, mental health issues, grief, trauma (including PTSD), and behavioral challenges.
- Provide specialized counseling for diverse populations including children, adolescents, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and those experiencing gender issues or chronic pain.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to manage acute situations effectively while ensuring client safety and stabilization.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and behavioral health records in compliance with HIPAA regulations; utilize medical terminology appropriately in clinical notes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management efforts; coordinate care with medical professionals for psychopharmacology or inpatient services when necessary.
- Engage in telehealth sessions to expand access to services and adapt to evolving healthcare delivery models.
Experience
- Proven experience in outpatient clinical settings providing mental health counseling or addiction treatment.
- Strong background in psychotherapy techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, crisis management, grief counseling, and behavioral therapy.
- Familiarity with ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10) for diagnostic evaluation and medical record documentation.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with disabilities; knowledge of special education or pediatric behavioral health is a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient confidentiality and medical records management.
- Prior telehealth experience is preferred; ability to adapt counseling methods for virtual platforms is highly valued.
