Position: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Reports to: Office Manager
Job Summary: Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are independent practitioners who provide behavior-analytic services which include but are not limited to: assessing clients, designing attainable goals, implement parent training objectives, and overseeing ABA based programs for their clients. BCBAs also provide supervision to Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and others who implement behavior-analytic interventions to ensure that they are monitoring progress towards acquisition goals and deceleration of maladaptive behavior. BCBAs are responsible for teaching behavior-analytic procedures to clients and their caregivers while preparing the client for discharge as appropriate. In addition to providing behavior-analytic services, it is the BCBAs responsibility to continue their education with CEUs and comply with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s ethics requirements.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements:
1. A person who meets all of the following requirements
i. Possesses the minimum of a Master’s Degree in a field deemed acceptable by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. These include Psychology, Education, or Applied Behavior Analysis. Degrees may also be accepted from degree programs in which the candidate completed a Behavior Analyst Certification Board verified course sequence. If the candidate is unsure, they may request a preliminary review from the board.
ii. Additional coursework must come from a qualifying institution and cover the required content outlined in the board’s Fourth Edition Task List and Course Content Allocation documents. Only graduate courses where the candidate earned a “C” or higher are acceptable.
iii. Candidates must complete experience hours that fully comply with the board’s Experience Standards, which includes 1,500 supervised field hours.
iv. Candidates must take and pass the proctored BCBA examination.
v. If BCBA intends on providing supervisory services, the BCBA must pass an 8-hour, competency-based training covering the BACB’s Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline and obtain 3 hours of continuing education related to supervision during each certification cycle.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
1. Assess client’s current behavioral function and develop Plan of Care that includes attainable goals for a 6-month authorization period.
2. Implement 1:1 behavior-analytic services in accordance with Plan of Care, as well as participate in instructing the RBT/BA, client, family, and any other member of interdisciplinary team personnel on the behavior intervention plan and any corresponding procedures.
3. Provide supervision to RBTs/BAs in accordance with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s requirements for supervision (Documentation for ongoing supervision and experience standards will change January 2019).
4. Ensure safety and dignity of clients.
5. Maintain confidentiality of all client information at all times (in compliance with HIPAA).
6. Observe, probe, and collect accurate and objective data on acquisition goals, as well as track instances of maladaptive behavior. If BCBA is not delivering direct services, it is the BCBA’s responsibility to ensure that RBT/BA is meeting this requirement.
7. Coordinate with caregivers and RBTs/BAs to schedule therapy sessions based on authorized hours from insurance. It is the BCBA’s responsibility to schedule supervision sessions according to Plan of Care.
8. Develop programming according to documented client progress with accuracy, timeliness, and ethicality.
9. Submit clinical notes, progress reports, and authorization/re-authorization according to agency policy and time frames.
10. Keep abreast of behavior analysis trends and knowledge by attending CEU events and training meetings.
11. Participate in in-service programs when offered.
Physical Elements
