Breakthrough Public Schools (BPS) is seeking a Behavior Technician (BT) to join our VPWH campus in their Multi - Intensive Autism Center.
The Behavior Technician will provide support to the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with programming to students in our autism center throughout the school day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist students with all instructional and non-instructional tasks as assigned by the BCBA
Supervise and ensure well-being of the students at all times
Support BCBA, including but not limited to:
- Preparing and setting up materials and activities
- Collect, analyze, maintain and graph student data daily
- Document student activities through SOAP notes
- Document student progress, and maintain daily progress reports
- Follow and implement small group or individual programming as directed by BCBA
- Assist in keeping the center and storage areas clean, neat, and orderly
- Attend classroom/team meetings and trainings
- Review and understand student IEPs & BIPs
- Assist in implementing BIPs, as needed
- Collaborate with with autism center team about student needs
Actively engage in identity work and necessary conversations in order to dismantle white supremacy culture
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education or related field, preferred
Experience:
- Experience in a school setting, preferred
- Fluency with basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), preferred
- Experience with implementing programming to students with autism or other developmental disabilities, preferred
- Experience with data collection
- Experience with engaging in cultural humility and self-reflection
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Passionate about urban education and working in communities that have historically been underserved and under-resourced
- Ability to collect data and display data into visual output
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Ability to receive and implement feedback
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
- Committed to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship-building with students and colleagues
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Performs work in an office setting with moderate levels of noise, sitting for long periods of time, repetitive motion using computers and phones, with exposure to fluorescent lighting
