At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Position Summary
The Credit Intern will support the Credit Department by assisting with financial analysis, annual reviews, and other key functions that help assess and manage commercial credit risk. This internship offers hands-on experience with credit underwriting, portfolio management, and financial statement analysis while working closely with Credit Analysts and team leaders. The intern will also gain exposure to the broader commercial banking process, including loan operations and treasury management requests.
Primary Accountabilities
- Assist in spreading and analyzing financial statements to support credit decisions.
- Support in completing Treasury Management requests and documentation.
- Participate in the preparation of Short Form Annual Reviews and Covenant Tests.
- Observe and learn from Credit Analyst I and II team members to understand day-to-day workflows.
- Participate in department-specific projects and contribute to process improvements based on business needs.
- Attend meetings and cross-functional introductions to gain exposure to multiple areas of the bank.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Enrolled in a degree program in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, with at least two years of coursework completed.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in commercial banking or credit analysis after graduation.
- Solid analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Teams.
- Demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail.
Internship Details:
- Internship duration: Must be available mid-May through late July 2026.
- Schedule: Must be available Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (40 hours/week).
- Must reside locally and report to the Maryland Heights, MO office.
