Position SummaryUnder the direction of the School Principal and Assistant Special Education Director, the Licensed School Social Worker provides direct and indirect social work services to students experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school, and facilitates communication among school, home and community providers.

Job Duties

Provides school social work services to students

  • Work in interprofessional and in multidisciplinary teams, with stakeholders and collaborate on the Special Education team to evaluate and improve services to meet the students’ and families’ needs and support teachers.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, Child Study Meetings and Parent meetings.
  • Participate in School-Wide Support Meetings
  • Collaborate with Special Education Leadership on SEL curriculum.
  • Provide short-term counseling to individuals or groups and conflict resolutions / mediation circles for students.
  • Facilitate crisis response and provide follow-up crisis counseling and referrals to appropriate providers.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and punctual records, safeguard privacy and confidentiality of information according to district policy, laws and licensing requirements.

Acts as a liaison between the home, school and community providers to access, mobilize and coordinate services.

  • Provide consultation to school personnel, parents, guardians and community partners for the purpose of enhancing their understanding of student needs and psychosocial development, developing effective interventions and school capacity.
  • Collaborate with the Attendance Coordinator and administration on truancy and provide intervention through the use of family engagement techniques
  • Listen to and respect the feelings and sensitivity of parents and students of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Empower parents to successfully use school and community resources.
  • Provide necessary Professional Development to stakeholder groups.

Provides crisis intervention services as needed.

  • Conduct student and family assessments to determine intervention and service needs.
  • Conduct suicide, self-harm and threat risk assessment, provide approprate interventions to individuals or groups, timely family involvement and make appropriate referrals.
  • Follow state and district mandated reporting requirements as they pertain to safety concerns and provide consultation for school staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active LGSW or LICSW and MDE school social work license
  • Commitment to TCGIS’s mission, vision, values & strategic goals.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s of Social Work preferred
  • Eligible to work in the United States (and/or commitment to work with TCGIS to receive a work permit).
  • Dedicated, flexible and supportive of charter school concepts.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the values and ethics of the individual's professional code of ethics and meets the minimum professional development requirements set by the licensing board.
  • Receives organizational and professional practice supervision.
  • Experience with Restorative Practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and implementing social-emotional learning.
  • Preferred proficiency in German language

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Ability: Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
  • Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Working Hours:

Regular hours for full-time employees are 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Teachers have one full week off for a fall break, two full weeks off for a winter break, and one full week off for a spring break, along with other federally-recognized holidays.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary will commensurate with experience. Teachers who regularly work 30 hours per week are eligible for insurance benefits including medical and dental insurance (premiums paid at 90% by employer), long-term life & disability insurance (premiums paid at 100% by employer).
