NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Gregory Mott, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree and a New York State School Counselor certificate.

DUTIES:
The Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) is committed to providing students and parents with pathways to opportunity that will lead to achievement and success. The School Counselor of Social and Emotional Supports reports to the assistant principal of school culture and climate, while receiving technical assistance, guidance and instruction while working in coordination with the Director of College Readiness and Workforce Education. The school counselor plans and provides appropriate services for students and assists in creating 21st century learning environments conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of the School counselor of Social and Emotional Supports include, but are not exclusively limited to the following:

Planning and/or promoting programs which enhance the social or emotional growth of students.
Designs, implements and assesses the social emotional learning curriculum
Utilizes responsive counseling, initiating individual and group sessions for students’ personal, social and academic concerns.
Develops and maintains effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs.
Addresses bullying/harassment. Provides education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, etc.)
Develops youth leadership and empowerment skills.
Assists teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data.
Collaborates with school leadership to assess, develop and implement school wide initiatives to address social emotional wellness.
Supports the development of a safe schools initiative.
Facilitates restorative justice and conflict resolution.
Ability to work with students who are in crisis situations. Able to provide guidance and assistance to school leaders regarding how to care for students who are experiencing a crisis.
Uses research-based and technically sound practices to drive decision-making; and collaborates with school personnel and parents to develop and modify student intervention strategies.
Conducts threat-assessments of students in crisis.
Available to be on call to support students as needed.
Pushes into classes and provides social skills lessons to develop resiliency of students.
Conducts and facilitates school-wide presentations.
Presents for students a positive role model.
Provides in-service training on topics related to trauma informed care, and supporting student achievement.
Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
Respect for diversity in the home, school, local and global communities.
Other duties as assigned.

APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.

In accordance with the PPSTA contract, $64,681-$100,293
