Description:
Assist in providing guidance and assistance while working with individuals with disabilities in an adult day program setting to continue development of life skills in the areas of health and wellness, education, art, recreation and leisure skills, and job training.
Duties:
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned day camp programs and services.
- Assist in providing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants in the HEART Day Program in the areas of health, education, art, recreation, and training.
- Implement activities in program setting according to established schedule.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals and objectives specific to area of responsibility.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Participate with program participants in scheduled daily activities.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding program participants, programs, and services.
- Maintain areas in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
- Accompany program participants on field trips.
- May transport program participants and supplies using a park district vehicle.
- Assist with the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials.
- Wear assigned uniforms while on duty.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Age:
- 16 years and older.
Education:
- Junior in high school or higher grade level.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Some college desired.
Experience:
- Working with adults and disabilities.
- Supervision of groups of adults with disabilities in a recreational setting.
- Supervision of staff and volunteers in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for adults with disabilities in a recreational environment.
License / Certification:
- Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
Conditions of Employment May Include:

- provide driver's abstract if position duties require driving.
- submit to a reference check and employment verification.
- submit to a state criminal background check.
- submit to pre-placement physical and drug testing if position will involve transportation of participants.
- submit to reasonable cause and post-accident alcohol and drug testing.
Hours:
- Monday and Tuesday: 9:45am - 2:15pm
