Under limited supervision, the SUD Counselor provides structured educational instruction and group facilitation for individuals referred through the court system under the PC1000 diversion program for misdemeanor drug offenses. The Counselor delivers both in-person and virtual sessions (via Zoom and Teams), assists with client enrollment, and monitors participation to ensure compliance with all PC1000 program and court requirements.


How will I contribute


  • Provide structured, evidence-based group sessions focused on substance use education, risk awareness, relapse prevention, and personal responsibility to support client rehabilitation.
  • Complete client orientation, registration, and scheduling; explain program expectations, requirements, and confidentiality policies.
  • Track participation, maintain accurate records, and prepare progress or non-compliance reports in accordance with PC1000 guidelines and court mandates.
  • Encourage client engagement, promote positive behavioral change, and provide motivational counseling techniques to support recovery and accountability.
  • Complete class rosters, attendance logs, and all required documentation promptly and accurately, ensuring compliance with agency, program, and legal standards.
  • Communicate regularly with program staff and legal representatives to verify client status, report outcomes, and ensure timely updates.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality requirements, ethical standards, and program integrity at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program.
  • Use of company vehicles may be subject to monitoring via in-vehicle dashcam systems for safety, compliance, and operational purposes. These systems may collect video, audio (in limited situations), and telematics data during vehicle use. As a condition of employment in a position requiring the operation of agency vehicles, employees are required to acknowledge and consent to the use of such monitoring technologies. Refusal to provide consent may disqualify an individual from being assigned driving responsibilities. All monitoring is conducted in compliance with applicable California privacy laws.
  • May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff will be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible.

What I bring


  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent)
  • Must be registered or certified by a DHCS approved certifying
  • Knowledge of SUD group curriculum, rules and regulations of DEJ PC1000 Court system
  • Maintain clear, accurate and concise consumer records, keep all documentation current, and complete all necessary forms in required time
  • Demonstrate empathy, strong communication skills, professionalism, ethical integrity, cultural awareness, and commitment to client-centered care and ongoing professional growth.
  • Working with SUD population and with Drug Court systems. Knowledge of preparation of curriculum for SUD classroom groups.
