SUMMARY

Join Laurel Life’s Community Wellness team where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our growing practice of Psychiatric CRNP’s and over 20 licensed outpatient therapists specializing in trauma informed treatment and care. The Psychiatrist works to support the goals and objectives of Laurel Life in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction. Primary responsibilities include psychiatric assessment and care using in person and/or telehealth treatment for a population of children, adolescents, and young adults. This includes making diagnoses, determining course of treatment, providing and/or supervising appropriate treatment and treatment planning, prescribing medications, reviewing/approving prior authorizations, and documenting patient treatment records. The team Psychiatrist provides oversight, consultation, and supervision of advance practice psychiatric professionals and therapists working within the outpatient clinic.

Commitment to these principles in trauma treatment will be required through attendance in trainings and use of identified evidence-based practices. Trauma informed care includes cultural sensitivity and emphasizes a safe and respectful environment for all clients and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conduct initial patient evaluations; take detailed identifying data, chief complaint, history of present illness, past psychiatric treatment, medical history, social history, family history, mental status examination, diagnostic impression, ICD-10 diagnoses and recommendations.

· Diagnose children and adolescents based on symptoms and prior medical treatment.

· Treat psychiatric conditions in patients using approaches established in the psychiatric medical field as best practice methods.

· Review and explain treatment plans to parents, guardians or other supports and clients to provide psycho-education in the outpatient mental health clinic.

· Advocate for young clients, especially with regard to different levels of care, educational needs, and referrals to other organizations.

· Prescribe medication on a conservative basis to treat verifiable mental health diagnoses and review psycho-education information (side effects, risks and benefits, etc.).

· Collaborate with medical assistant staff for collection and documentation of height, weight, and blood pressure at regular appointments to meet prior authorization requirements.

· Oversee prescriptive authority for advance practice psychiatric professionals (CRNP’s) working within the outpatient clinic.

· Ability to provide PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal Record Check, FBI Clearance, and Mandated Reporting ACT 31 as needed per PA State Regulations.

· Upholding agency policies and standards as well as ethical standards of appropriate discipline.

· Collaborates with Outpatient Supervisor, Team Leaders, Clinicians and Admission Specialists to provide triage evaluation, crisis intervention, and treatment recommendations.

· Timely completion of required clinical documentation as required by Laurel Life, Department of Human Services, and Managed Care Organizations. All clinical documentation and patient communication is maintained in electronic health record. Refer direct communication from patients to clinic supervisor.

· Participate in and complete staff training courses/programs as required by Laurel Life, Department of Human Services, Managed Care Organizations, and Commonwealth of PA Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs.

· Provides psychiatric supervision, per 55 PA CODE CHS. 1153 and 5200, to monitor all treatment plans on a regular basis and provide supervision as necessary for the clients and services provided.

· Assists clients to gain insight, define goals, and plan action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.

· Consults reference material, such as professional websites, textbooks, manuals, and journals, to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop approach to treatment.

· Responds to client reactions, evaluates effectiveness of medication management services, counseling or treatment recommendations, and modifies plan as needed.

· May perform other special projects or duties as requested by the CEO, Division VP, Director of Outpatient Services, or Direct Supervisor.

SKILLS

· Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to develop effective and meaningful relationships with clients.

· Unrestricted state license to practice medicine required.

· 3+ years’ experience in psychiatric practice.

· 2+ years’ experience treating children and/or adolescents.

· Willingness to learn and follow clinic’s standards of practice.

· Demonstrable ability to connect with and provide support for children and adolescents.

· Current DEA permit required.

· Familiarity with electronic health record systems.

· Ability to pass background checks.

· Must be able to remain calm in a crisis situation, identify underlying causes of problem situations, resolve conflicts, and de-escalate potentially explosive situations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

· Requires licensure by the State of Pennsylvania as a Medical Doctor and board certification in psychiatry.

· Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Preferred

· Medical degree - M.D., D.O. or foreign equivalent Completion of an accredited residency program

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primary work setting is an office facility or telehealth from an off-site location. Clientele may at times be verbally or physically abusive.
