Duties

  • Conduct assessments to determine clients' needs and develop personalized music therapy treatment plans.
  • Implement music therapy interventions that may include songwriting, improvisation, lyric discussion, and performance.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing music as a therapeutic tool.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Engage in behavioral health practices to support clients dealing with mental health issues or addiction.
  • Document client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Facilitate recreational therapy activities that promote social interaction and emotional expression through music.
  • Provide support for patients in hospice care, focusing on comfort and emotional well-being through music.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) is required.
  • Experience working with children and individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques and mental health counseling practices.
  • Familiarity with medical documentation processes, including CPT coding for outpatient services.
  • Experience in group therapy settings and individual counseling approaches.
  • Understanding of dementia care principles and strategies for effective communication with patients experiencing cognitive decline.
  • Skills in art therapy or dance therapy are a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage clients from diverse backgrounds.
