Job Summary:

The Companion provides professional support services to participants, promoting independence and assisting with daily living activities. This role ensures that all services align with the participant's goals and objectives, supporting their occupational therapy (OT), speech-language pathology (SLP), physical therapy (PT), or other professional therapy plans. The Companion offers verbal/non-verbal cues, encouragement, and assistance to reinforce strategies learned in therapy sessions. Comfortable Living will provide background information and review special needs before each assignment.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Adhere to administrative policies and uphold the philosophy, goals, and values of Comfortable Living.

- Promote self-determination, recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.

- Assist individuals in identifying strengths, setting wellness goals, and overcoming barriers.

- Maintain confidentiality and respect participant privacy at all times.

- Deliver individualized support based on professional recommendations and team guidelines.

- Encourage participant decision-making, productivity, and engagement in daily activities.

- Contribute to a positive living environment that enhances quality of life.

- Treat participants and their property with dignity and respect.

- Support participation in social activities and hobbies within the community.

- Complete and submit required documentation, including logs and incident reports, promptly.

- Maintain open communication with supervisors and report significant changes in a participant’s condition.

- Attend treatment team meetings to support goal planning and self-advocacy.

- Act as an advocate with employers, referral sources, families, schools, and social service agencies.

Companionship Services May Include:

- Providing mental stimulation and social interaction.

- Cueing, prompting, and guiding participants in achieving their goals.

- Assisting with meal preparation and cleanup.

- Offering medication and appointment reminders.

- Performing light housekeeping and organizing tasks.

- Running errands using personal or client vehicles.

- Accompanying participants to appointments and outings.

Personal Care Support May Include:

- Assisting with bathing, grooming, and toileting.

- Supporting mobility and incontinence care.

- Encouraging independence in daily activities.

Specialized Services May Include:

- Lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds.

- Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

- Adapting to various living environments and locations.

- Communicating in a friendly, supportive manner.

- Ensuring participants are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

- Supporting individuals with positive behavioral techniques to foster respect and dignity.

- Bringing personal strengths and interests to enhance participant experiences.

- Encouraging participants to exercise their rights and responsibilities.

- Attending staff meetings, training sessions, and other assigned agency functions.

- Responsible handling of highly confidential information.

- Creativity and adaptability to work with limited resources.

- Flexibility and the ability to handle stressful situations.

- Meet all agency pre-employment requirements per Comfortable Living and state regulations.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.

Qualifications:

- Must be 18 years of age.

- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

- Maintain all required state certifications and program-specific requirements.

- Possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record per Comfortable Living’s vehicle policy.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
