About Job

We are seeking an experienced College Guidance Counselor to join our team and support students in navigating the college application process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in guiding students through scholarship opportunities for college schools. As a college counselor, you will provide personalized guidance to students, assist with college applications, and help them explore various scholarship options to finance their education.

College Guidance Counselor Job Responsibilities:

  • Make recommendations to students for higher education and colleges, and for admission and scholarships
  • Counsel students, both individually and in groups, regarding physical, emotional, and psychological well-being
  • Provide performance counseling and formulate educational plans for students
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians and professional staff as necessary
  • Administer classroom presentations (classroom guidance lessons) monthly
  • Provide in-service training to staff and parents as needed regarding school counseling related tasks
  • Conduct workshops as needed; plan, organize, and disseminate information
  • Develop a communication link and rapport with outside service agencies
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide possible interventions for classroom academic or behavior modifications
  • Perform supervisory duties as required by principal
  • Use effective positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Develop a communication link with outside agencies

Student Schedules:

Creating student schedules in school platform, ensuring graduation requirements are being met and students are on track

Returning students' schedules should be completed prior to summer break

Register new students and orient them to the school procedures and curriculum

Monitor and adjust students/academic program toward eligibility for diploma

  • Dual Enrollment

Enroll only those students who meet all applications requirements and submit paperwork on time.

Request and receive complete Dual Enrollment schedule prior to beginning classes

Request and receive midterm grades prior to allowing students to enroll in further courses

Request and receive final grades and transcripts in a timely manner following completion of courses

  • Advanced Placement (AP)

Host an AP informational meeting for prospective students and families interested in AP courses

Host a Spring AP Symposium with the AP teachers and students to go over expectations and give the teachers an opportunity to deliver summer assignments and discuss the AP contract

  • Florida Virtual School

Registering students for FLVS courses, working with FLVS coordinators and FPA Lab coordinators

  • School Counseling Events

ACE, AIMS, AP Symposium, etc.

Schedule, design, and coordinate events

  • Monthly Celebrations

Student activities for each month (Ex. February: Black History Month)

Ensure each month is equally represented

  • College Visits

Schedule College visits for fall (complete over summer to have list prepared for fall)

Meet with college representatives as they arrive to campus

Have students sign up during first meeting

  • Senior Events

Collaborate with the academic team with planning and execution of senior related events (senior ring ordering and dinner, HHN, Gradbash, Commitment day, commencement, senior packages etc.)

Work with seniors to select senior song, quote, flower, color

Work with seniors to design and select senior class T-shirt

  • College Road Trips

Mini trip in October for group of seniors

Weeklong trip during Experiential Week

  • Individual Student Counseling

Attendance issues

Academic, career, social/emotional counseling

Meet with all grade levels twice per year, minimum.

  • Peer Tutoring

Recruiting/Training Tutors

Shared coverage with academic team

  • Attend Conferences & Fairs

Ex. FCIS Conference, Melbourne College Fair, NACAC College Fair

  • Student Community Service Hours

Organize monthly service opportunities for students

Record and track hours for students

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in School Counselor (Master's degree preferred).
- Previous experience working as a college counselor or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of college admissions processes and scholarship resources.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
