Job Title: Senior Counselor
Location: Finger Lakes Region, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule:

Clifton Springs: FT M 12-8, T-F 9-5.

Penn Yan: FT T-F 3 days and 1 evening. Sat days.


Job Summary:

The Senior Counselor provides direct counseling services to FLACRA clients, including individual, family, and group sessions. This role also acts as clinical backup to the Outpatient Clinic Director and supports the assessment and quality of care provided by the counseling team. Under the direction of the Team Manager, the Senior Counselor is instrumental in guiding and supervising FLACRA’s counseling staff to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in health / human services.
  • Three years of a combination of education and supervisory experience in health and human services.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Qualified Health Professional (QHP) status preferred, or willingness to obtain with 6 months of hire date.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct diagnostic evaluations for clients referred from a variety of sources, assessing primary and secondary diagnoses to determine appropriate counseling needs.
  2. Provide therapeutic services through individual, family, conjoint, and group therapy sessions tailored to client needs.
  3. Use independent judgment in managing intakes and caseloads, consulting on technical issues related to diagnostic evaluations and treatment techniques.
  4. Represent FLACRA at community presentations and participate in training programs.
  5. Actively participate in staff, in-service, and supervisory meetings, offering insight and support to the counseling team.
  6. Supervise and direct activities of Addiction Counselors, support staff, and students, providing training and guidance on counseling techniques, including TIER and group skills.
  7. Provide backup supervision of counseling staff in the absence of the Team Manager, managing clinic issues and maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
  8. Act as clinical support to the Program Manager, demonstrating strong diagnostic skills and regulatory knowledge (OASAS).
  9. Perform additional duties as directed by management.

Skills & Experience:
  1. Strong supervisory skills with the ability to guide and support other counselors and staff.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with culturally diverse individuals, staff, and community service providers.
  4. Familiarity with the local behavioral health service system.
  5. Proven ability to multitask, problem-solve, and manage time effectively, with the ability to remain calm in a crisis.
  6. Proficiency in electronic record-keeping (E-Record).
