Position Summary:

The Response Coordinator - Resident Counselor plays a key role in connecting individuals and families experiencing homelessness with emergency shelter and supportive services. Working as part of an interagency team, this position responds to crisis calls, facilitates shelter placement, and provides support to residents in HONOR facilities.

Shifts Available (Full-Time):

  • Thursday – Monday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Wednesday – Sunday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM
  • Thursday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and Sunday – Monday 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (Resident Counselor position – split schedule, benefits eligible)
  • On-call positions available

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Two years of human services experience; supervisory experience a plus
  • Strong computer literacy and typing ability
  • Strong phone communication skills
  • Detail oriented and have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills (friendly, courteous, helpful, ability to work as part of a team).
  • Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility. Uses diplomacy and tact when dealing with and interacting with others. Diffuses tension. Fosters collegial and cooperative attitudes. Works effectively to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, Electronic Health Record
  • Bi-lingual a plus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to high-volume calls from the community and the County Crisis Line (3-1-1) to coordinate shelter placements.
  • Work closely with DSS, HRC/HRA, medical providers, and law enforcement to secure emergency housing solutions.
  • Conduct eligibility assessments, complete intake paperwork, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Provide non-directive counseling, support, and guidance to residents.
  • Monitor resident safety, enforce program policies, and assist with daily living skills and facility upkeep.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to agency policies at all times.
