Mental Health Counselor – Psychiatric (Contract) – Lawrence, MA
Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts
Shift: 32 hours per week – Tuesday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Friday double 3:00 pm to 7:00 am, Saturday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm (schedule may be adjusted as needed)
Duration: 13 weeks with possible extension
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Counselor – Psychiatric to join a dedicated psychiatric care team at a well-respected facility in Lawrence, MA. This role offers a 13-week contract with the possibility of extension. The position provides consistent hours, a supportive team environment, and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients in acute psychiatric care.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and monitoring to patients in acute psychiatric care settings
- Assist with therapeutic interventions, crisis de-escalation, and behavior management
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other mental health professionals to deliver high-quality care
- Document patient observations, progress, and interventions accurately in the EMR
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care psychiatric setting
- Degree in Psychology or related field required
- BLS (American Heart Association) required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Team-oriented professional with a passion for patient-centered mental health care
