The Psychiatrist provides direct patient care for South Coast Community Services. This role serves as a liaison and consultant to clinical staff. The Psychiatrist collaborates with the program directors, managers, supervisors, clinical staff, on issues clinical in nature. We strive to provide an environment conducive to continuous quality improvement, develop and maintain professional relationships within and external to the organization.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Diagnosing and treating adult and child patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
- Determining the nature and extent of mental disorders, and formulating a treatment program utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
- Providing direct patient care to individuals with mental health as their primary diagnosis, as well as individuals suffering from a secondary mental health disturbance or illness.
- This role requires understanding of medications and interactions with mental health symptoms, as well as impacts to overall physical health implications of drugs and drug interactions and collaborating with, educating, and instructing on the physical health issues that might affect the mental health of their patients, such as drug interactions.
- Collaborate in other discussions with local hospitals about step up or step down care.
- Collaborate in CFTs, if necessary, and other discussions with local hospitals about step up or step down care
- The ideal candidate would embrace our vision of opening CCBHC sites having integrated care for behavioral and physical healthcare.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience
- Completion of medical residency program in Psychiatry
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred, not required
Licensure, Registration, Certification
- DEA License
- Current license to practice medicine in the State of California
- Ideal candidate would be Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology
- If Board Eligible, must be certified within 4 years of employment start date
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle without restrictions, often in heavy traffic and frequently long distances (one hour or more).
- Senses of vision, hearing and smell sufficient to regularly operate a motor vehicle, to visualize threats in the environment and operate safely.
- Required to occasionally lift and carry 10-20 pounds.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, climb stairs (1 or more flights) and walk.
- Regularly required to sit and use computer in office settings.
