TITLE OF POSITION: Residential Counselor
LINES OF AUTHORITY: This position reports to the Senior Director of Clinical Services
POSITION SUMMARY: The Residential Counselor will work with all Affinity Behavioral Care residents to provide ongoing support, which includes individual weekly counseling, group counseling sessions, as well as other clinical services as needed or appropriate. This is a fulltime and salary position. Must have a Masters Degree in a Behavioral Health Field and one year providng counseling with SMI and Substance Abuse.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual counseling to all residents each week and complete documentation
- Facilitate group counseling when needed
- Conduct assessments and treatment plans when needed/appropriate
- Meet and staff each client’s progress/needs with Senior Director of Clinical Services weekly.
- Assist in client crisis intervention when appropriate
- Participate in staffings when necessary and appropriate
- Coordinate with Residential House managers as appropriate
- Complies with the house schedules, company rules, and the company’s policies and procedures
- Responsible for the safety of the clients and house
- Responsible for documenting weekly counseling notes on all clients
- Responsible for protecting client rights, confidentiality of the client, and medical records
- Notify supervisor in the event of a safety and/or clinical issue requiring immediate attention
- Assisting clients with daily living skills when applicable
- Knowledge of CPR as evidenced by annual training certification
- Knowledge of 1st Aid as evidenced by annual training certification
- Responsible for completing an Incident, Accident, and Death (IAD) Report when indicated
- Responsible for abiding by the Code of Ethics and conducting yourself in a professional manner
POSITION REQUISITES:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Master’s degree in a related behavioral health field required and at least 1 year of fulltime experience working in the behavioral health field providing counseling
- Requires excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to document sound clinical notes within a timely manner
- Strong engagement skills with residents
- Experience facilitating counseling sessions with residents
- Experience with working with residents who have a serious mental illness AND substance use diagnosis and treatment modalities
- Requires someone who is flexible, compassionate, empathic and professional
- Requires driving to and from different BHRF locations within Goodyear.
- Licensed with AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lift 25 pounds
- Drive a vehicle (valid driver’s license)
- Completes required trainings
- Participates in required supervision
- Physically able to perform the primary responsibilities and working conditions
- Ability to respond to emergencies

- Current CPR Certification
- Current 1st Aid Training Certification
- AZ Valid Driver’s License
- Current Fingerprint Clearance Card
- TB results - 2 negative TB skin test results in the last 12 months OR 1 TB negative blood test (QuantiFERON®-TB)
- Background check
- Current Physical exam
WORKING CONDITIONS: EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS:
- Able to use computer, fax/scan/printer, telephone
- Ability to create and edit clinical progress notes
- Standing on feet for long periods of time
- Ability to type and use of computer programs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $53,500.00 per year
