About Job

Description of Position:

Primary responsibilities include the provision of mental health evaluations and providing individual counseling for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as family and group counseling. The role also involves delivering or coordinating case management services when needed.


Job Knowledge & Comprehension:

A. Conduct thorough assessment of clients’ mental, emotional and behavioral health.
B. Diagnose behavioral health disorders and conditions based on assessments, interviews, and clinical observations, using the most current DSM diagnostic guidelines.
C. Provide individual, marital, family and group therapy.
D. Develop individualized treatment plans for client caseload.
E. Participate in the regular on-call crisis line rotation and provide crisis evaluations and intervention as needed.
F. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with exempt functions.


Work Quality & Accuracy:
A. Participate in in-service trainings and staff meetings.
B. Complete accurate, timely and comprehensive documentation of all clinical services.
C. Make recommended documentation or clinical changes outlined by supervisor in quality assurance reviews.
D. Actively provide input in improving the overall quality of services provided both personally and by other departments.
E. Provide crisis intervention service to clients in the on call rotation and document the interaction in electronic health record.

Work Habits & Time Management:
A. Complete all required documentation related to client service delivery by month end.
B. Complete written evaluation within 30 days of client intake.
C. Complete treatment plan within 30 days of client intake.
D. Strive to meet the expected direct service goal of 60% each week.
E. Complete treatment plan reviews and outcome measures per ARSD rule.
F. Terminate clients in EHR within ARSD rule timeline.

Professional Conduct & Development:
A. Seek out consultation in a timely manner with supervisor(s) or clinical team when in doubt.
B. Keep supervisor(s) informed of atypical clinical situations as well as informs crisis rotation team of potential crisis situations with client case load.
C. Maintain discretion and confidentiality as required in all communication with others.
D. Provide professional & educational presentations to the community as needed.
E. Demonstrate a positive image of the Human Service Agency by applying effective human relation skills with clients, visitors and other employees.
F. Stay informed of the latest research, best practices and continuing education opportunities in the mental health field.
G. Assure continuing education and licensure renewal are kept up to date.
H. Abide by the philosophy, mission, and ethical standards of the Human Service Agency.
I. Employee will continue down licensure path until top licensure is achieved.
J. Employee will seek to become a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).


Physical Requirements:
A. Required to sit for long periods of time.
B. Must be able to drive a vehicle and maintain a positive driving record.
C. Must be computer efficient to complete documentation requirements.

A. Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or psychology is required & licensed or pursuing licensure, by the appropriate licensing board.
B. Possession of a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
C. Must live within 60 miles of Watertown to allow for timely response to crisis evaluations
D. Cannot be in the Office of Inspector General (OIG) exclusionary database.

The Board of Directors of the Human Service Agency shall have the prerogative to hire staff whose qualifications may vary from the above. This position requires access to Electronic Personal Health Information (EPHI). Current HSA Policies and Procedures apply. It is the responsibility of the employee to read, understand, and comply with HSA policies and procedures that apply to protected information and security.
